Several of the Gp's have a special interest in Antenatal Care and co-ordinate 'Shared Care' arrangements with Ipswich General Hospital, Maternity Unit.

'Shared Care' means that the majority of your antenatal care will be conducted by your GP at Hunter Street Medical. You would be advised when you were required to attend antenatal clinics at the hospital.

Ipswich also has several Obstetrians in private practice. Your GP can refer you as you require.

Postnatal Care: Again the care of mother and newborn baby can be handled by your GP. A six(6) week post natal check is recommended and will include both mother and baby.

Care Plans are available for patients with a chronic disease. These plans allow you, the patient, to learn more about your disease and assistance that you may be eligible for, eg podiatry, dietitian, physiotherapist.

Medicare allows several services per year for eligible patients.

The initial assessment and paperwork is conducted by several of our nurses who have specialised knowledge in this area. You are also scheduled a consultation with your GP who will discuss the plan with you and do any necessary referrals.

Most of the doctors have special morning vaccination clinics scheduled, with clinics being available every morning, Monday to Friday.

These clinics allow for your baby or toddler to have a full check with the Doctor of your choice assisted by one of our nurses. They decrease your waiting time and are bulk billed. We are also able to offer you a Health Kids Check for your child once they turn 3 and a half.

This is an ideal opportunity to check all aspects of their development before they start school.

These are available to all patients over 75 years of age.

We find these assessments a valuable opportunity to assess your overall health and your needs and would encourage every patient in this age group to take advantage of this assessment.

One of the more important outcomes of these assessments is to enable you to continue living in your own home with appropriate support. Again, these are initially conducted by our nurses, with a follow up consultation with your GP.

These assessments are covered by Medicare and there will be no 'out of pocket' expense to you.

Minor Surgery

Some of the doctors are available for their regular patients who live within 5 km of the surgery which is located at Shop 40B-D68 Brassall Shopping Centre, Hunter Street Brassall, Queensland.

Home visits from these doctors are available if that patient's illness prevents them from coming to the surgery.

However, it is always preferable for a patient to attend the surgery, as your doctor will have access to all necessary equipment to treat you adequately.

If you require a medical certificate for work or school, it is necessary for you to attend for a consultation. It is illegal for a certificate to be back dated or to be issued without a consult.

Repeat prescriptions for regular medications may be organised as a telephone consultation, There will usually be an out of pocket fee of $10 - $15 for this service.

It is necessary to have a referral from your GP in order to consult a specialist. Health Department regulations require this referral in order for you to be able to obtain a medicare rebate for the visit.

Government regulations also prevent referrals from being backdated. It is therefore necessary for you to request and collect referrals prior to your specialist appointment. We require at least one week's notice for your doctor to write any referral. A consultation is required if you have not had a referral to a particular specialist from your doctor before. Telephone consultations also available for this service, in which there will usually be an out of pocket fee of $10 - $15.

Specialist fees differ from those charged in General Practice and we advise you to contact the specialist for this information.
